Mike Montgomery has more than 30 years of experience advising clients and litigating matters relating to business formations and disputes, business operations, employment matters, contracts, covenants not to compete, trade secrets, construction, school district and board, procurement and regulatory matters. Mr. Montgomery has tried cases to jury verdict from all areas of tort and contract, representing both plaintiffs and defendants ranging from torts, to contract to professional liability.  He has tried numerous cases before South Carolina’s Chief Procurement Officers and the Procurement Review Panel as well as other administrative agencies.  He has appeared and successfully represented clients before State and Federal Appellant Courts.  Mike has worked to guide several matters to settlements well in excess of $1,000,000.  He is also experienced in the operation of government, finance, management and supervision of employees and staff.  Mr. Montgomery regularly handles complex matters in areas of government procurement and finance.  Mike’s clients find him to be thoughtful, creative and responsive in addressing their needs and problems

Mr. Montgomery has been actively involved in the legislative process on behalf of clients and as an elected official. From 2005 to 2009, he served as an elected member of the Richland County Council. He represented constituents on a variety of issues, led the development of revised budget procedures in dealing with elected county officials, developed policies on public transit and worked to better implement long-term planning. Additionally, Mr. Montgomery served on the Richland County School District Two Board of Trustees from 1996 to 2004, serving in the duration as secretary, vice chair and chair.  While in office, he worked with elected board members and administrative staff to lead South Carolina's fastest growing school districts. Mr. Montgomery also served as a member of Governor Sanford's Education Transition Advisory Committee and presented programs to educational organizations including the National School Board Association and the South Carolina School Boards Association.  As a result of this involvement he has represented several school districts and the South Carolina State Board of Education on various matters.

  • Married to the former Victoria Jakes since 1984, Mike and Vicky have three grown children.  In his spare time Mike enjoys SCUBA diving, the arts, and various community service activities.
